Convention Theme: Community and Comprehensive Schools: Inclusion and Diversity
Convention 2017 took place in the Malton Hotel, Killarney on 23rd, 24th, 25th March 2017 attended by 193 delegates representing 81 schools.
The President Ms. Antoinette NicGearailt opened the Convention with a warm welcome to all delegates. The Convention Handbook containing the agenda for the Convention together with a comprehensive report of ACCS activities during the year was distributed to all delegates and to members of all Boards of Management.
The Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Richard Bruton, attended and presented his response to the Presidential address of the President Ms. Antoinette NicGearailt and outlined the views of the DES on the Convention theme and other issues of concern.
Ms. Emily Logan, Chief Commissioner of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission delivered a comprehensive presentation on the work of her Commission and its relevance to the theme of Convention and to the work of ACCS and its members. Further valuable contributions were presented by officials from the DES.

The Convention banquet on the evening of Fri 24th. March was attended by all delegates and a wide range of invited guests representing the DES and the many educational organisations with which ACCS is associated in its day to day activities.
Particular tribute was paid to those representing the first three Comprehensive Schools founded in 1966 - St. Patrick's Comprehensive School, Shannon, Scoil Chuimsitheach Ciaráin, Carraroe and St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill. A particularly warm tribute was paid to Mr. Diarmuid Ó'Donnabháin, the founding Principal of Shannon Comprehensive School, who was present.
Particular compliments are due to the students from Portmarnock Community School and Poblascoil Chorcha Dhuibhne for their contributions to the Convention.
