Sick Leave - Clerical Officers and Caretakers
Last updated: Fri, Aug 11th, 2017 9:04:50 am
The sick leave entitlement of Clerical Officers employed in DES approved secretarial posts in Community and Comprehensive Schools is outlined in DES CL 0064/2015. The conditions outlined apply equally to DES approved Caretaking and Maintenance staff similarly employed.
It should be noted that:
Non teaching staff in Community and Comprehensive Schools are not on the DES payroll and consequently their attendance or absences are not recorded on the DES OLCS system as referenced in this circular. School management must therefore have in place a suitable procedure for the recording of such absences.
DES approved Secretarial and Maintenance staff are entitled to appropriate access to the DES Occupational Health Service as outlined in the DES Occupational Health Strategy and administered through MEDMARK. In the event that staff members are referred to Medmark the costs arising from such reference are met by the school.
Provision is made for the payment of Temporary Rehabilitation Remuneration (CL 65/2014 Section 4) to staff members who have exceeded their overall sick leave entitlement subject to specific conditions as set out in the circular. Such payment is directly linked to membership of an ill health retirement pension scheme. Consequently a staff member who is not a member of such a pension scheme does not qualify for this payment.
