ACCS/Info Bulletin 26/19

Re: Urgent Appeal from State Examinations Commission and
Information regarding Examination Candidate Self Service Portal 2019

1. URGENT APPEAL:

The State Examinations Commission needs teachers, including recently qualified and retired teachers, to mark selected subjects at the 2019 Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate examinations. Full details of this appeal are available on the SEC’s website here https://www.examinations.ie/recruitment

The SEC is actively seeking examiners for the following subjects:

a) Leaving Certificate written examinations in Business, English, Geography, French, German, Home Economics, and Spanish.

b) Junior Cycle written examinations in CSPE, Gaeilge, Geography, German, History, Home Economics, Mathematics, Religious Education, Science and Spanish.

Details of these posts, which have been advertised on www.educationposts.ie and on www.examinations.ie are available at https://www.examinations.ie/recruitment/

Please notify teachers of these subjects in your school that the SEC is short of examiners in these subjects. Teachers engaging in examinations marking are the lifeblood of the examinations system. Such experience benefits teaching practice, professional development and knowledge of the examinations and assessment system. The SEC also welcomes applications from teachers in all other subject areas to provide cover for the inevitable vacancies which arise during the process as the examining period draws close, including after it has commenced.

Everybody involved in second level education agrees that our externally assessed examinations system requires that candidates’ work be marked to the highest standards and involves the active engagement of significant numbers of teachers in the process.

Teachers considering applying for this work might note that rates of payment for this work have increased by 2% this year and also that the Pension Related Deduction, which was previously deducted at a rate of 10.5%, no longer applies and payments for examining work will be made free of this deduction.

2. Candidate Self Service Portal 2019

Please ensure each candidate gets their individualised letter from the State Examination Commission before the end of May. This letter details:

  • the candidate’s Examination Number and personal PIN (required to complete the initial registration for the SEC’s new Candidate Self Service Portal to access results, viewing and appeal services).

  • confirmation of the subjects, levels and paper versions for which they are entered.

This service is being provided to Leaving Certificate candidates only. Details of the arrangements for the release of the Junior Cycle results, including PIN letters for candidates, will issue in September 2019.

Please note guidelines from SEC regarding confidentiality and security.

Please also provide each candidate with a copy of the information leaflet about the Candidate Self Service Portal.

Please note: If a candidate does not register on the portal they will NOT be able to access the range of online services available on the portal. The application to view scripts; the viewing of scripts marked online, the appeal application and the appeal results services are being provided exclusively on-line this year.

Is mise,
