ACCS/Info Bulletin 22/19

Re: Certificate Examinations 2019 Examinations Aides and Leaving Certificate Examination 2019 Organising Superintendents for the supervised viewing of marked Leaving Certificate scripts.

Examinations Aide

  1. School authorities have discretion to engage an Examinations Aide for a period of up to 15 days each year to assist the Principal during the state examinations or to fully substitute for the Principal where he/she is unavailable for any reason.

  2. It should be noted that the state examinations include all oral/practical/project tests associated with the Certificate Examinations, i.e., the period during which the Examinations Aide may be engaged is not confined to the June examination period.

For the 2019 examinations the following will also apply:

  1. Recognised post-primary schools with 300 or more examination candidates due to take examinations, will be permitted to claim an additional day for every 50 additional candidates.

  2. Two additional days related to the extension of the Leaving Certificate Timetable. Schools that have students taking examinations during the extended timetable may claim one additional day if the school is open on either the 24th or 25th June, and two additional days if it is open on both the 24th and the 25th June.

Organising Superintendents

  1. In light of the revised arrangements for the viewing of scripts this year, (and also taking into account the reduced volume of scripts to be handled as a consequence of on-line marking) the SEC will be implementing a task rate of €1,000 for this role. This was previously a daily rate for up to 5 days at €137.40 per day.

  2. This year, each school will be invited to appoint one organising superintendent. The person appointed may, based on the number of candidates applying to view scripts, have discretion to appoint one, or more, assistant organising superintendents for a period of up to three days. The relevant documentation is attached for information.

  3. The deadline for returning this form is Friday 3rd May 2019.

  4. Taking into consideration the technological changes being introduced this year the nominated person must be computer literate i.e. familiar with use of emails, setting up and sending group email and group text messages. In light of the changes to the arrangements this year, the SEC will use email to communicate with organising superintendents. See note on setting up a dedicated email address for such communication

In addition, please note: Confirmation of time of issue of Leaving Certificate results and Medium of Leaving Certificate appeal results.

  1. For this year the Leaving Certificate results will be available on the SEC website at 10 AM on Tuesday 13th August.

  2. From this year the Leaving Certificate appeal results will be issued on-line only.
