ACCS/Info Bulletin 17/19

Re: Student Climate Change Protest

School management is aware of media reports that school students are planning a day of action on March 15th because of the failures of adults to address climate change.

ACCS advise school management to communicate directly with parents, students and staff that March 15th is a normal school day and normal protocols regarding student absence or students seeking to leave during the school day apply.

Some schools have already engaged with their student council and may be organising events in the school in solidarity with their students. Some of these initiatives may involve displays, invited speakers on the issues surrounding climate change or use of materials designed by Worldwise Global Schools which support climate and human related development education in Irish schools. These events may not necessarily coincide with March 15th but can be notified to the school community as events prompted by the concerns raised by students.
