Joining a Zoom meeting

Overview

Before joining a Zoom meeting on a computer or mobile device, you can download the Zoom app here. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a join link.

You can also join a test meeting to familiarise yourself with Zoom.

Prerequisites

Each meeting has a unique 9, 10, or 11-digit number called a meeting ID that will be required to join a Zoom meeting.

If you are joining via telephone, you will need the teleconferencing number provided in the invite.

Attendee Controls

When you join a Zoom meeting hosted by another user, you are considered an attendee. The user who scheduled the meeting will have host controls. You can learn more about attendee controls here

Privacy & Security

Settings the ACCS is using/not using to optimise privacy and security and avoid the potential for uninvited guests:

  1. We use the licensed version of Zoom that allow us greater granular control over settings as well as give you the ability to join a meeting by telephone only

  2. We do not use the attention tracking feature

  3. Only the host or co-host can share their screen

  4. Waiting room is enabled - this allows the host to screen those who enter the call and only allow invited guests to join

  5. By default, video is turned off for participants and participants can select to show their video feed

  6. Zoom alerts you if a meeting is recorded

  7. You can join a Zoom meeting via telephone (audio only), even from a landline

We continue to review the user experience as well as meeting settings and will continue to make changes in the best interest of attendee privacy and security.
