ACCS Convention in Slieve Russell, Cavan, sets the pathway for continued School Success
The Association of Community and Comprehensive Schools (ACCS) held its Annual Convention from March 26 to March 28, 2025, at the Slieve Russell Hotel in County Cavan. This event brought together School Leaders to discuss and celebrate the achievements of Community and Comprehensive schools across Ireland.
The convention, sponsored by VSware featured an impressive lineup of keynote speakers:
Mairead McGuinness, former EU Commissioner and former pupil of Ardee Community School.
Dr. Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children.
Catherina McKiernan, Irish athletics legend.
Helen McEntee TD, Minister for Education.
Each keynote speaker was honoured with gifts of artwork created by pupils of Ardee Community School, adding a personal touch to their contributions.
Election of ACCS President
Mary Jackson was elected, unopposed, as President of the ACCS. Her election marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Association, with a focus on continuing to support and enhance the educational experience in Community and Comprehensive schools.
ACCS All Ireland Debating Championship
A highlight of the convention was the first ACCS All Ireland Debating Championship Final. St Brendan’s Community School, Birr, emerged victorious over Glenamaddy Community School, winning the inaugural Frank Murray Cup – presented by Barbara Murray. The final showcased the debating skills and intellectual prowess of students from across Ireland.
Musical Performances
The convention also featured musical performances by students from Moyne Community School. These performances added a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere to the event, highlighting the artistic talents of the students.
The ACCS Annual Convention 2025 was a resounding success, providing a platform for meaningful discussions, celebrating achievements, and fostering a sense of community among School Leaders.
