CPD on the new Junior Cycle Framework image 010

At the Area Information Meetings, we advised that ACCS and JCT were jointly planning an in-service training day on the new Junior Cycle Framework.

Following a welcome and introductions, Fiona O’Brien JCT Advisor for Leadership and Assessment, will provide participants with a ‘catch-up’ briefing on the key aspects of the Framework, including:

  • Key elements of the Framework – Principles, Key Skills, Subjects, Short Courses and L2LPs
  • Implementation Issues: 40 and 60 mins classes; Structure of the school day; Number of subjects for certification
  • Wellbeing’ and associated timetabling requirements
  • Circular 15/2017 – Teacher Professional Time; Management Supports etc.
  • The Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement 2017

For the afternoon session, Donal O’Mahony, JCT Deputy Director (Whole School and Leadership), will brief school leaders on the purposes, content and intended outcomes of the whole-school planning day which JCT is available to deliver in your school later this year. The seminar will conclude with a ‘Questions & Answers’ session from 3.00pm. ACCS strongly advises all schools to attend this event. JCT will continue to provide Leadership CPD later this term but as all sectors will be comprehended, a certain level of awareness of the Framework and its implementation issues will be expected of all participants.

We are again pleased to be able to provide many of these CPD programme opportunities free to schools. In the case of the In-School Management Conference & The ACCS Annual Convention normal registration fees will apply. Please note that booking/registration forms will be sent to schools in advance by post for the ACCS In-School Management Conference and the ACCS Annual Convention.

It is very important that we know in good time how many participants are coming to each course, particularly where catering is required.  We realise that schools are very busy places so we will send e-mail reminders to schools as we approach each event. We would like to thank you for your continuing co-operation with our programme and invite you to discuss with us any issues which may arise for you in relation to the programme.
