1, ACCS online ‘Briefing for Boards of Management and School Leaders’ on the 29th September 2022 Time: 9.30am – 10.30am

Objectives:

This webinar is the second in a series of monthly check-in webinars for schools which are scheduled throughout the 2022/23 school year. This practical event will include a brief presentation on key updates, current issues, reminders, and a Q&A session for participants. Schools are invited to forward queries to Head Office by emailing office@accs.ie  in advance of Thursday’s webinar which will be discussed during the Zoom briefing.

Principal, Deputy Principal(s), Secretary, Board of Management, Chairperson, Board of Management and Board of Management Members.

2 ACCS Regional In-Person ‘Governance in Schools Board of Management Training’.

Building on the online approach to Board training during Covid-19, ACCS has developed a regional approach to Board of Management training for the 2022/23 school year. This training will be delivered by a team of experienced facilitators from across the five regions. The main focus of the training is to ensure that participants are fully informed of the role and key functions which they carry out when serving as members of a Board of Management in a Community/Comprehensive School. 

Objectives:

This comprehensive programme is designed to support new and experienced board members in their understanding of school governance with reference to:

·     The work of ACCS and its role in supporting Boards of Management in the C&C sector

·     The Legislative Framework and the Deed of Trust

·     The Board of Management, the Joint Trustees and the school community

·     The Board of Management as Employer and managing effective HR procedures*

Other key areas include:

·     Admissions: Leading the inclusive school

·     Child Protection

·     Financial Guidelines*

·     Health and Safety*

·     Site and Building Matters

·     GDPR and managing the data protection*

·     Policy Development and the SSE process

·     Care and management of students

·     Curriculum, Planning and Evaluation

·     SEN and Inclusion*

·     New Developments in Education

Participants will be given opportunities to learn about the C&C sector, to network with colleagues from other schools and to explore how to organise effective board meetings.

*These topics are covered separately in short webinars which are facilitated by the relevant ACCS personnel and partner organisations. Recordings of the webinars are included in the suite of training videos available on the website.

Please Note: Following consultation with members from Connacht & Ulster, ACCS has agreed to schedule separate events for the two regions. This change to the programme will facilitate greater access and less travel time for participants in these regions.

Individual Board of Management training is available on request during the 2022/23 school year. Boards wishing to avail of this training should contact ACCS Head Office. A suite of training videos for Board members is also available on the ACCS website www.accs.ie
