1. Updated documentation regarding Examinations 2021.

The Department of Education has now uploaded an updated version of the publication ‘Assessment Arrangements for Junior and Leaving Certificate 2021’ onto the gov.ie website at https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/7acad-reopening-our-post-primary-schools/. (Also see attached)

The updated version includes clarifications in relation to the following Leaving Certificate subjects: Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Economics, English (Higher Level), Geography and Mathematics. The clarifications take account of comments received from key stakeholders and have been arrived at through discussion between the Department of Education, the State Examinations Commission and the National Council for Curriculum Assessment.

In addition, the State Examinations Commission has today uploaded Circular S64/20, ‘Exceptional arrangements for the completion and authentication of Coursework 2021 due to COVID-19’. This circular provides additional information in relation to exceptional arrangements for the completion and authentication of coursework for 2021 that have been put in place due to the ongoing, unprecedented circumstances associated with COVID-19. 2. CL 0081/2020 Revised Procedures for the Upgrading of Grade III Secretary Posts in Schools to Grade IV Posts.

ACCS welcomes the publication of CL 0081/2020 (attached) which states that:

7.1.2 Grade III Secretary posts in schools with 40 or more permanent whole-time equivalent (WTE) teachers in each of the two previous school years and forecast to remain at this level in the current school year, will be graded at Grade IV level, subject to a maximum of one such post in each school.

It is important on reading the Circular that All Grade IV posts are to be filled by competitive process, except in circumstances as noted in paragraph 7.2.1 of this circular.

Further guidance will issue from ACCS on this Circular early in the New Year.
